Hi All,

We are in the process of looking for our first Eriba, as well as in the UK, we will be using it for our summer trek down to southern Spain so rather than a mad 12 hour dash from Santander we can take a leisurely 3 or 4 days availing ourselves of the various Aires en-route. So we want a small, 2 berth van, with a height not exceeding 2.2m ( to get into our garage space in Spain) We are rather attracted to the layout of the Puck 225 but my only concern is lack of a toilet for those senior moments at night.:red:

Is there any cupboard space large enough to take a porta potti type loo in the 225 or even the 120 or will it have to be "bucket and chuck it" responsibly of course!(as we intend to use Aires then an awning is not really an option)

We have considered the Famillia 320 but don't like the idea of sleeping across the van, effectively trapping one sleeper at the rear end. Also the height maybe an issue, but it's only the entrance to our garage that has a height issue so maybe we could let down the tyres slightly to gain clearance?

Any views or advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Chris

I think the height is standard on all the range but the more recent ones that they increased the roofs.

Morning.
The Puck is the lowest of all the eriba's at 1.98 meters.
However our standard sized garage could not clear it. But once in there plenty of room around in the garage with the puck in there.
Bed wise, my opinion is that a bed is a bed in a caravan unless its split. The puck wont be much easier to get out of in the night either as you have to shuffle off the end. Also if you have the Puck you'll need an awning and a porta potty. The Puck wont be roomy enough to use the toilet.
We had to adapt our garage so the puck could get in, but its paid off as we dont have any storage charges, the puck is well protected from the elements and when we want to go, we just pull it out and we are off.

Regards from Bob.

You don't "have" to sleep across a Familia. To avoid nocturnal climbing-over syndrome (on the basis that our legs are narrower than our shoulders) we sleep longways with our legs on one of the front cushions (which fits neatly between the gas fire and the fridge supported on an upturned beer crate).

Hi Chris
We've got a Triton 430 and sleep across the van....not really a problem for my hubby who sleeps on the inside...he has longer legs than me so can very easily climb over me.    The 430 has a loo....which we would not be without....not only is it lovely to be able to go to the loo in the night but you can wash your hands too:grin:  and the 2nd sink is invaluable as an additional kitchen sink during meal perp times...we also store stuff in there during our travels....in colder weather there is an warm air duct in the loo so it's warm in the night when you pay a visit..and it means you can dry stuff in there during the day!!!
We bought our Eriba because it fitted through an archway in our place in Barcelona when we go there a couple of times a year.

Happy hunting:grin:

Hi Chris, we have our 225Gt up for sale at the moment. It's in the For Sale and Wanted section. Some of the comments made are talking about the Puck and not the PuckL which is that little bit bigger. We have used our van in the UK and in Europe for the last 8 years. We do have a Porta Potti but we normally use sites with facilities. There is a lot of storage in the 225, more than is at first obvious. The bed is huge, my hubby is over 6 ft and has no problem. As you sleep lengthwise it is not a problem getting up if you need too. I will be sorry to part with our Eriba in all honesty but age forces changes (mover in particular). PM me if you are interested. Oh and welcome to the wonderful world of Eriba.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the info re your van, but as you can see we've managed to find a very late Puck L 230GT SWMBO fell in love with it so who am I to deny her . Hope you manage to sell yours.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replys, height is our main issue, together with manoeuvrability in a parking garage. The vehicle we normally travel to Spain in is a Land Rover Defender, the roof rack on that is 2.17m height and that gets through our garage door, no problem, so this what I'm basing the height issue on. There is probably enough clearance for a 2.2m van ( I'm flying down in a couple of weeks so I'll get the actual clearance then)

So I just have to decide whether we can live with the cross bed layout of the 320, I think the 430 would be just a bit too big!, or whether we go for a Puck L or 225, save some money,  and arrange some simpler toilet arrangements, perhaps one could hang a simple curtain over the end of the bed to give some privacy? Obviously with the Land Rover we have no lack of space to store a Porta Potti or whatever so it wouldn't need to be transported in the van.

We are hoping to get across to Automotive Leisure soon to have a good look and try out the various layouts so hopefully this will help us decide.

We went to look at a 320 at the caravan show last weekend. The build quality of the van is fantastic.
Our 17 year old Puck still looks like brand new. I would expect the new 320 will last 20+ years and if you use it frequently you will get your investment back in holidays and fun.
We have already after 4 years ownership.
We love our Puck.

Hi All,

Well, since my last post We've gone and done it:eek:

Put a deposit down on a 2010 Puck L 250, hopefully picking up next week. She is a beauty  looking forward to getting our hands on her.

Now I've got to persuade SWMBO that we can't transfer EVERYTHING from our old Burstner Belcanto (2.3 x 7m) into the small but perfectly formed Eriba!

No doubt lots of questions will follow!

Still waiting to get the Puck L, due to other commitments then AL being closed for a week due to the show I won't be getting my hands on our Puck till the 4th of March  We're still trying to sort out a campsite for our first shakedown on our way home to Cornwall, any recommendations for a site near Charnmouth/Bridport? A lot seem to be closed this time of year.

Hi Chris
these appear to be open on 4th March  http://www.newlandsholidays.co.uk/Tariff/Camping-and-Touring .... as you approach Charmouth from Bridport take slip road to Charmouth and they are just along on the left... no connection with them and have never stayed there

Our favorite, Binghams at bridport is not open on the 4th, but along the coast a way at there is this one. http://www.wdlh.co.uk/ (Highlands) it gets 9/10 on UKcampsite reviews. Then there is this one that is open all year. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7054

So where did you stay after? Spill the beans for future reference.

Hi Guys,

Picked up the Puck from AL last Friday and made our way to Charnmouth where we stayed at Manor Farm Holiday Centre. As I imagine at this time of year everything was a bit run down, only shower was in the disabled loo, but clean, warm and lots of hot water. The gents toilets were a bit smelly! The site itself was too close to the A35 and the traffic noise was dreadful, like being on the end of an airport runway, I had assumed that the A35 wasn't that busy but the noise was continuous all night. The staff were very friendly and it cost us £18 for the night on a tarmac/gravel pitch with electricity.
As we were only staying one night and that was only to get acquainted with our new baby and check the systems we weren't too bothered but if we had booked a few nights we wouldn't have been to happy. It was a typical Holiday Park, with a mix of chalets and tourers, I imagine in the summer it must be bedlam!
But the main thing was the Puck L she was great!
