I'm Clare and I have been wanting a Eriba for a long time now. I bought a campervan for a while and have now sold it and looking for an Eriba either a Triton 420 or Familia 320 but price wise would be looking at something in the 90's. It's a bit daunting searching the secondhand market place and have been duly scared by one main dealer as they told me that you have no idea when buying privately if the cage frame has rusted away and that their prices reflect that they check even that. I'm sensible enough to realise that the dealer would rather I buy from them and a chassis cage is exposed to elements, wet road conditions, mud and grass, so would need careful inspection but never thought about the inside framework would rust. Does anyone know if this is this common?

Clare,

I don't think it's uncommon I'm afraid.     http://www.eribaforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/topic_show.pl?pid=141866;hl=chassis%20rust

Note, I don't say common, but not uncommon.

Common enough however, for a really good check to be vital along the lower small section frame member around the entire perimeter of the van.

To buy one with rusted 'small chassis' members would be a lot of heart-ache and money.  I was quoted £1000's by the Scottish dealer for my problem.  I eventually repaired it myself (that is to say, I 'managed' the repair) which was actually done at my local friendly engineering company.

if you do go to look at a prospective eriba, take someone with you and have a screwdriver and penknife each - two heads are far better than one in this situation.

Regards,  Terry
